German as a Foreign Language
The Language Centre supports international students and applicants preparing to enter university with a range of German language courses at different levels of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

Pre-Study German Language Course B2/C1
The course is aimed at international students, applicants preparing to study and exchange students who need B2 or C1 level German in order to be able to study on degree programmes in German at our university. For the B2 course, prior knowledge of German at the B1 level is required. The C1 course requires prior knowledge of German at the B2 level.
Exchange students who want to study at HNEE for a year have the option of gaining language competency to B2 level during the winter semester while at the same time taking 1-2 modules in the desired degree programme. In the following summer semester they only take modules in the degree programme.
The C1 course in the summer semester is intended for full-time students, applicants and exchange students with already existing language knowledge at B2 level. After this course, they may start their studies or exchange semester in one of our degree programmes in German from the winter semester.

B2: Ocober 5th, 2020 - January 22nd, 2021
C1: March 1st, 2021 - June 18th, 2021
Please note: The course is planned as a classroom course, but crisis-related restrictions are possible.
Classes: 9:30 am - 12:30 pm Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.

DSH exam
The German language exam for university admission (Deutsche Sprachprüfung für den Hochschulzugang, or DSH) can be taken at the HNEE's language centre after successfull completion of the preparatory German course. The test will provide language certification for your study at the university. It is based on the HNEE's examination protocols for the DSH from April 24, 2019.
Fees
While there are no course fees, participants are expected to cover the cost of study materials and the costs for applying over uni-assist.

Applying for the course is now possible over uni-assist. For advice, see here. Please apply until January 15th, 2021 for German C1.
Applications for last minute course places and places for those already registered as students at HNEE can be submitted at the language centre (priority will be given to applications over uni-assist).
For this, enclose the following documents and send them to us by post or email:
- ID
- Proof of qualification for entry to higher education (Hochschulzugangsberechtigung — “HZB“) or equivalent in either German or English
- Proof of B1-level German language skills (for the B2 course) or B2-level German language skills for the C1 course
